Organic Innovation Days: biorefinery products as possible solutions for organic farming
From November 27 to 29, Organic Innovation Days, the annual meeting promoted by TP Organics -European Technology Platform for Organic Food and Agriculture was held in Brussels. TP Organic, of which Novamont is a member, was born from an idea of IFOAM EU GROUP - International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements and ISOFAR - International Society of Organic Agriculture Research.
The event, that took place simultaneously with G-STIC 2018 - Global Sustainable Technology & Innovation Conference, brought together the actors of the organic and traditional food and agriculture sector, as well as policy makers to discuss the latest innovations, in the supply chains, explore new technologies outside the organic world and discuss EU research and innovation policy.
On November 29, Sara Guerrini, Novamont’s Public Affairs Agriculture, participated as a speaker at the session dedicated to the implementation of agro-ecological technologies and large-scale innovations. Through the presentation "Looking beyond Organics: Biodegradable plastics for organic farming", she explained how biodegradable in soil bioplastics, as well as other biorefinery products such (i.e. biolubricants ) can be possible tools to meet the needs of organic farmers.
The mulch film made of MATER-BI, for example, thanks to its complete biodegradability must not be recovered and disposed of at the end of the crop cycle, but could be processed in the soil where it is biodegraded by microorganisms, thus allowing a saving in terms of time and resources.
