The XIX edition of Expoquimia, the International Chemistry event at the Barcelona Fair, was held from September 14 to 17. 
 

Expoquimia, a reference appointment for the chemical sector in Spain, represents a great opportunity to promote collaboration between relevant players in the sector. This edition, in particular, fostered the discussion on new materials, the opportunities of green chemistry and the role of biotechnology, thus encouraging dialogue to find innovative and sustainable solutions to the current challenges acknowledged by the 2030 Agenda. 
 

The event was also attended by Novamont Iberia, the Spanish and Portuguese branch of the Group, which presented its latest applications in biodegradable and compostable bioplastics for cling film, food packaging and mulch films. 
 

At Novamont stand, thanks to an ad hoc installation, the cycle of Mater-Bi, the family of biodegradable and compostable bioplastics, was illustrated. Starting from renewable raw materials, by means of proprietary technologies using starches, cellulose, vegetable oils and their combinations, Mater-Bi is made, with which environmentally sustainable solutions for everyday life are then produced. These applications, thanks to their characteristics of biodegradability and compostability, can be collected in the organic waste fraction and then return to the soil, after composting process, contributing to its regeneration.
