The European project First2run, coordinated by Novamont, protagonist of the Bratislava Bioeconomy Conference

On October 17th, the most important industrial players and policy makers met in Bratislava to attend the new edition of bioeconomy conference, organized the Slovak Presidency together with European Commission.

The conference was an important opportunity to analyze the role of the EU regions in developing sustainable bioeconomy. The Presidency will collect the outcome of the conference in a position paper as an important input to the future orientation of the European Bioeconomy Strategy.

The FIRST2RUN project coordinated by NOVAMONT and aims to demonstrate the technical, economic and environmental sustainability of a highly innovative, integrated biorefinery in the local area, was among the protagonists of the walking exhibition "Bio-based Economy Made in Europe". Through a guided tour the participants were able to observe the concrete solutions offered by the bioeconomy: products from renewable sources thanks to significant investments in research and development of new technologies. Among these, even bioproducts made by FIRST2RUN project, starting from low input oilseed crops (such as thistle), cultivated on arid and/or marginal land.

The exhibition was organized by the "Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking” (BBI), the public/private partnership between the European Union and BIC, Bio-based Industries Consortium and responsible for funding the FIRST2RUN project.
