Bioeconomics and Organic Farming: Catia Bastioli discussed it at IFOAM

The 12th European Organic Congress, the event promoted by IFOAM, the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, as well as one of the most important events of the year for the sector, took place from 25 to 26 September.
 
Held at the University of Vienna, the conference was attended by over two hundred industry experts, focusing on key issues of the CAP review, the Common Agricultural Policy, and on the importance of increasingly promoting sustainable agriculture and measures aimed at mitigating climate change.
 
On September 26, Catia Bastioli, CEO of NOVAMONT, took part in the session "The role of Organic in the Future Economies: Up scaling Vs. new economic approach", where she has illustrated how the bioeconomy could become the engine of a territorial regeneration in economic and environmental terms, contributing to the protection of soils through the bioplastics and biochemicals value chain and creating income opportunities for small producers.
 
Through the best agricultural practices, such as the use of biodegradable mulching sheeting, bio-herbicides for weed control or biolubricants, it is possible to curb the phenomenon of desertification and contribute to the protection of waters and soils.
 
The session, moderated by Eduardo Cuoco, Research Coordinator of IFOAM, were also attended by: Asterès with Helene Timoshkin, Sonnentor with Johannes Gutmann and IDDRI, Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations, with Sebastien Treyer.
