Novamont at MARCA 2019 - Private Labels Conference and Exhibition

NOVAMONT renewed its participation at the Private Labels Conference and Exhibition – MARCA, held in Bologna on January 16th and 17th.

At the fair, the results of a Nielsen analysis on consumer behavior in relation to fruit and vegetable bags were presented. It emerged that the high-buyers of fruit and vegetables (consumers who buy quantities above the average of products in the sector)  show greater appreciation for the legislation providing the introduction of biodegradable and compostable plastic bags, considering it as an incentive for virtuous and environmental friendly behaviors (14% more than to the average of Italians). In the wider context in which Italians declare to be virtuous and attentive to issues of environmental sustainability, the analysis shows that the motivations that push families to buy bulk products are mainly those of avoiding waste (25%), respecting the environment (20% ), and save on the cost of the product (18%). Furthermore, 92% of the time the fruit and vegetable buyers are committed to the separate waste collection.

The protagonist at the Novamont stand was, as usual, the new range of applications made of Mater-Bi, including the innovative salad bowl produced by Sirap and certified “Compostabile CIC”. The salad bowl is already distributed by Radicetonda, the first 100% “Bio restaurant” in Milan that chose Mater-Bi biodegradable and compostable products.

Moreover, Novamont stand hosted a tasting event of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana wrapped in the new packaging made of Mater-Bi, biodegradable and compostable according to the UNI 13432 standard. The new products was launched by the dairy "Le Terre di Don Peppe Diana - Libera Terra", a social enterprise engaged in the fight against the Camorra.

Obtained from raw materials of vegetable origins, and in compliance with the Italian law on primary food packaging n. 123/2017 and the European Regulation on Food Contact Materials, the new compostable mozzarella bag can be disposed of together with organic waste and, if recycled through composting, can be transformed into fertile compost for agricultural land.

The PDO Mozzarella di Bufala Campana wrapped  in the Mater-Bi bag is the result of the collaboration with Cooperativa Ventuno, a social enterprise founded by the families of victims of organized crime, that has always been committed in protecting the environment and the legality of the province of Caserta (Campania Region), also through the promotion of the use of biodegradable and compostable packaging.
