Novamont among the speakers at the Italian event of the flagship project Circular Biocarbon

On May 26, among the initiatives organized for the Bioeconomy Day, the Italian event dedicated to the Circular Biocarbon flagship project, "CIRCULAR BIOCARBON: the first urban circular economy platform in Italy," took place at Cariplo Factory in Milan.

The conference, organized by Gruppo CAP, was an opportunity to learn more about the project which is funded by Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU), and of which Novamont is partner. The initiative aims to promote the valorization of urban organic waste for the production of secondary raw materials, with the purpose of demonstrating the technical, economic and environmental sustainability feasibility of an integrated platform fed by sewage sludge and the organic fraction of municipal solid waste.

Luigi Capuzzi, Novamont Research and Development Director, participated to explain Novamont's role within the project. In particular, the Group is dedicating effort in the conversion of PHA, derived from the organic fraction of municipal solid waste, into biomaterials that can be used for new applications such as compostable bags for the collection of organic fraction and biodegradable soil mulch films.

Among the speakers at the round table also Desdemona Oliva, R&D Director Gruppo CAP, Marco Bernardi, R&D and Innovation Director Gruppo CAP, Francesco Fatone, Chemical and Environmental Engineering Full Professor at Università Politecnica delle Marche and Natalia Alfaro, Project Coordinator Urbaser.
