Novamont among the key players in the Global Plastics Commitment for a New Plastic Economy promoted by Ellen MacArthur Foundation

On October 29th "A line in the sand: The Global Commitment to eliminate plastic pollution from the source”, was cosigned by over 250 organizations, including the world's largest producers of packaging materials, brand owners, retailers, converters, governments, NGOs , institutions and over 40 academic institutions. Novamont, world leader in the bioeconomy sector and in the production of biodegradable and compostable bioplastics, is one of the key players supporting the initiative.
 
The Global Commitment, promoted by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the New Plastics Economy (the protocol signed by 40 companies at the World Economic Forum in Davos, which aims to create a sustainable plastic economy), in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Assembly, was officially presented at the Ocean Conference held in Bali with the aim to create ‘a new normal’ for plastic packaging.
 
Targets include: eliminate problematic or unnecessary plastic packaging and move from single-use to reusable packaging models;  innovate to ensure 100% of plastic packaging can be easily and safely reused, recycled, or composted by 2025; circulate the plastic produced, by rapidly increase the amount of plastics reused or recycled and converted into new packaging or products.
 
Targets will be reviewed every 18 months, and will become increasingly ambitious over the coming years. Businesses that co-signed the commitment will publish annual data on their progress to help drive momentum and ensure transparency.
