Catia Bastioli presents the Mission Soil health and food at the European Week of Regions and Cities

On 22 October, as part of the European Week of Regions and Cities, the EU Mission for Soil health and food promoted the event "Caring for soil is caring for life - a EU mission to protect healthy soils for food, people, nature".

Catia Bastioli, Novamont CEO and member of the board of the EU Mission for Soil health and food, illustrated the actions that the Mission will carry out to pursue its objectives to 2030. The expected result is that 75% of the soils of Member States will be preserved and healthy; that society rethinks the way  to use and enhance soils; that consumers are aware of the impact of food choices on soil and land management; that land and soils in agriculture, forests, and urban areas are managed in a sustainable way.

To achieve these objectives, the Mission identifies as fundamental a systemic approach that combines research and innovation, co-creation of projects, their measurement through Living labs to create knowledge, and lighthouses to test and demonstrate solutions.

Kerstin Rosenow, Head of the Research and Innovation Unit DG AGRI, moderated the event, which was attended also by Nathalie Sauze-Vandevyver, Director of Quality, Research and Innovation DG AGRI, Arwyn Jones, researcher at the Joint Research Center of the European Union, Ellen Luyten, representative of OVAM, waste management agency in Flanders and Benedikt Bösel, farmer and member of the Soil Alliance for regenerative agriculture.
