BioBag case study at the European Bioplastic Conference
On December 6 - 7, the 17th European Bioplastics Conference was held in Berlin. The event was an opportunity for industries in the sector to discuss the latest innovations, and their own successful case studies.
Among the topics discussed also the developments on policy level, in particular the proposal for a Regulation on Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWR).
The event was opened by Stefan Barot, chairman of the conference, who emphasized the key role that the European Union could play in addressing current environmental challenges by promoting a circular economy to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. A central part of his speech was the topic of bioplastics as a key to pursuing that goal.
Among the speakers of the first day, during the panel "BEST PRACTICES IN FOOD WASTE COLLECTION, also Alberto Castellanza, who presented the successful case study of organic fraction collection in Copenhagen, developed in collaboration with the Biobag Group. In particular, Castellanza highlighted the great result recorded in 2021, in which 15000 of tons of food waste were collected, which corresponds to the energy consumption of 5 million hot baths of five minutes duration.
The city of Copenhagen has now the goal of recycling 70% of its waste by 2024.
